126 students from Expert PU College likely to join NITK

Mangaluru: Going by last year’s admission process at the 3rd round this year 126 students from Expert PU College, in the city are likely to get admission at NITK, Suratkal this year.

In 2015, at the time of the 3rd round of admission in Computer Science department the cut off rank in general merit was 2561(All India Ranking) and in E & C department it was 4555, in IT department 5805, in E & E department 9436, in mechanical department 9701, in chemical department 14028, in civil department 17410, in metallurgy & materials department 21347 and in mining department it was 26479.

Similarly in OBC category, the cut off rank in computer science was 5820, in E&C 5620, in IT 9104, in E&E 11908, in mechanical 11590, in chemical 13935, in civil 13376, in metallurgy & materials 17193, in mining it was 18481.

In SC category the cut off rank at the All India level for computer science was 1131, in E&C 1516, in IT 3300, in E&E 3950, in mechanical 3714, in chemical 4415, in civil 4303, in metallurgy & materials 6255, in mining it was 6137.

In ST category the cut off rank at the All India level for computer science was 890, in E&C 1150, in IT 1233, in E&E 1215, in mechanical 1508, in chemical 1857, in civil 1707, in metallurgy & materials 2284, in mining it was 2288.

Going by the All India cut off ranks in all the departments in various categories last year, this year 8 students from Expert PU College, here are likely to get admission to computer science department and 21 students to E & C department, 16 students to IT department, 7 students to E & E department, 4 to mechanical department, 23 to chemical department, 7 to civil department, 25 to metallurgy and materials and 15 to mining department. So many students from one institution getting admitted to the prestigious NITK Suratkal is possibly a record of sorts. As many as 60 students in general merit category, 53 in OBC category, 4 in SC and 9 in ST category are likely to secure admission, said the confident chairman of Expert Educational & Charitable Foundations, here, prof Narendra L Nayak.

Prominent among the students who are likely to get admission at NITK are, in general merit category Niranjan Kamath (All India rank 1180), Soham S Patil (2415), Jatin J M (3911), Rahul M Aladageri (4221), Vijya Kumar G V (4225) and Adarsh Ingin Shetty (4329).

In OBC category Piyush N Hanchate (938), Vasantha Kumar L (1108) Darshan D V (1195) Rachana H (1661), Uzair Shaghil (2321), Manoj B A (2436), Varsha K R (2455), Gururaj Kolar (2478), Karthik Mahalathkar (2990). In ST category Sooraj Koorligaya (13), Dixith (105), Suraj D.C. (200), Sumanth T.M. (233), Adarsh R S ((1135) Manoj M (1832), Samved Prasad (2007). In SC category Vaishnavi K (1937), A V Shruthi (2525) are the prominent among students who are likely to get admission at NITK.

At present there are 19 IITs and 30 NITs in India. Of them, NITK ranks the 10th as per the survey conducted for their quality. NITK ranks the first among all the 30 NITs in India for its excellence in quality education. In NITK Suratkal, every year approximately 800 students get admitted. Of them 50% ie, 400 students are from Karnataka. Of these, 47.5% are under general merit, 27% OBC, 15% SC, 7.5% ST and 3% physically challenged students.

In 2016, as many as 7 students have been selected for the award of the prestigious KVPY scholarship from Expert PU College, Mangaluru. 17 students qualified in the NDA written exam. 15 students qualified in the JEE (advanced). Of these 15 students, the highly meritorious Niranjan Kamath has already secured admission in IIT Chennai. We may recall here of the top 50 ranks in 2016 KCET in 7 different sections 41 ranks have been bagged by Expert PU College students. Perseverance by students, parents’ support and able guidance by teachers are the factors for this amazing success. Prof Narendra L Nayak, the chairman of the institution has congratulated all these students.
