2-month certificate course in Bioethics

Manipal: A two-month certificate course in Bioethics in collaboration with Clinical Development Services Agency (CDSA), an extramural Unit of Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, New Delhi will be held here from March 31 to June 4, 2016. The course being held under the Centre for Bioethics, Manipal University, Manipal is open for clinicians, non-clinicians, teachers in the medical and paramedical fields, nurses and researchers in medicine, philosophy and law, and members of the institutional ethical committee across India.

The course will have three days of contact sessions per month and the course Director is Dr. Nandini Kumar, Former Deputy Director General Sr. Grade (ICMR). Currently she is the Dr. T M A Pai Endowment Chair on Bioethics, Manipal University and Adjunct Professor (Bioethics), Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.

Experts like Padma Vibhushan awardee, Dr.M S Valiathan, currently a National Research Professor, Dr.Vasantha Muthuswamy, President of Forum Ethics Review Committees in India (FERCI) and also a retired senior Deputy Director General and Chief of the Division of Basic Medical Sciences, Traditional Medicine and Bioethics, Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi and others will give lectures during the course.The Course certificate will be awarded to all the participants on successful completion of the examination and assignments.

The Centre for Bioethics, Manipal University, Manipal was established in 2015 with Dr. Joseph Thomas, Professor of Urology, Kasturba Medical College & Hospital, Manipal as its head. The Centre was started basically to strengthen the integration of values and ethics component in training the undergraduates, postgraduates, researchers across medical and non-medical disciplines. The Centre offers and supports educational programmes and services to help students, researchers, clinicians, professionals from humanities and life sciences to confront the complex ethical issues emerging as a result of technological and biomedical advancement in health care and research.
