2 overseas universities Jointly hold symposium

Manipal: Manipal University, Manipal, Maastricht University, The Netherlands and McMaster University, Canada are jointly hosting the 6th Global Health Symposium which began on April 17, 2016. The Symposium ends on April 29, 2015. Over 250 students from the three universities are participating in the Symposium with the theme “Bridging Different Worlds”.

“The main objective of the Symposium is to bring Masters Students in Global Health and Public Health together to exchange knowledge and experiences and to learn from each other, from the faculty of the three universities and from experts in the field of Global Health and Public Health,” said Dr. Sanjay Pattanshetty, Associate Professor and Coordinator MPH Programmes.

A Global Health Conference will be held on April 23 and 24 at the Dr TMA Pai Hall and Interact Lecture Hall Complex as a part of the Symposium. During the conference, students will present research proposals they have developed in preparation for writing their scholarly paper or thesis. In addition, the conference provides students the opportunity to build international network which will be helpful in their careers.

The Symposium Conference will be inaugurated by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Manipal University. Dr. Anja Krumeich, Associate Professor, Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, Department of Health, Ethics & Society, and Director of the Masters of Science in Global Health at Maastricht University will provide an overview of the partnership between Manipal, Maastricht and McMaster Universities. Dr. Andrea Baumann, Associate V-P, Global Health, Faculty of Health Sciences and Director, Masters of Science in Global Health, McMaster University, Canada will give the objectives and an overview of the Conference.

Dr. Vikram Patel, FMedSci, Professor of International Mental Health and Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow in Clinical Science at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (UK) will give the opening keynote address.
