AeroMIT’s best-ever performance at international meet

Manipal: Team AeroMITcame up with yet another glorious performance, this time at SAE AeroDesign East 2016 inFort Worth, Texas from March 11 to 13, 2016. The team returned with a third place win in the “Highest Payload Lifted Category” to bring laurels to Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal University. The meet is organized annually by SAE International and Lockheed Martin in the U.S.AeroMIT has figured in six editions of the SAE AeroDesign Event and the team has been improving with every outing, moving from 21st to the single digit rank of 5 this time.

“This has been the best performance by AeroMIT so far and won all-round praise for the performance, according to the leader of the team,”AniruddhaPoddar, a third year civil engineering student. He said that the team’s aircraft was regarded as one of the most stable and controllable aircrafts in its class. AeroMIT participated in the Micro Class, which had 19 participating teams from 5 countries. Our Results were: World rank 4 in "Highest Payload Fraction" category. World rank 5 in "Design Report" category and World rank 5, overall in the Micro Class.

Earlier, on December 28, 2015, AeroMIT had outmatched 37 teams including IITs and NITs to clinch the first place on its maiden appearance in the Boeing National Aeromodelling Competition for West Zone in Mumbai. The team had even secured a second position in the Aviator Design Competition presented by the Airbus Group.“We at AeroMIT, are driven by our passion and love, for everything that flies. This enables us to design and fabricate some of the best airplanes and gives us the opportunity to fly them too. I am glad with the enthusiasm and dedication the team shows for the project. Andthe late hours each one puts in, really makes me optimistic about the future of AeroMIT. This result encourages us to do better and is a boost for the various other projects we undertake in the field of UAV research and manufacture,” said Aniruddha.

Faculty adviser, Mr. Kamlesh Kumar from the Department of Aeronautical and Automobile said, “The key to success of AeroMIT is their dedication to perseverance and hard work. AeroMIT believes in the beauty of their aviation dream toachieve goals and make MIT, Manipal proud.I heartily congratulate AeroMIT and wish them greater success in future”.“It’s a fantastic, unique competition filled with lots of great challenges and excellent learning opportunities, giving us a chance to integrate our classroom knowledge with the world outside,” said Arjit Seth, a second year Aeronautical Engineering Student.

Team AeroMIT comprises 20 interdisciplinary aeromodelling enthusiasts who design, build, test and fly radio controlled aircrafts.
