Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, local MLA warned Panchayat Development Officers and Village Secretaries to alert twenty four hours if needed for the supply of drinking water the water scarce areas of Udupi Assembly constituency and he said every grama panchayat areas drinking water made available.
He was speaking during the meeting called for Panchayat Development Officers (PDO) and village secretaries on supply of drinking water in Udupi Assembly constituency at Udupi Taluk Office Hall on Monday, 14th March, 2016.
All PDO’s should act very seriously and check all the water sources of the areas. They should make list of areas facing water scarcity not only this year but those since previous years continuously facing severe water scarcity and submit the list to the Task Force for drinking water. The Task Force will make arrangement for the supply of drinking water through water tankers.
Pramod Madhwaraj also chairman of the task force said to the PDO’s and other concerned that no file related to drinking water should be kept pending in grama panchayats or other offices. Action will be taken if any file on drinking water was found pending for more than twenty four hours.
Janardhan Thonse, Zilla Panchayat member said that there will be acute shortage of drinking water in Kallianpur and Uppoor arears. He told to chair that immediate action to be taken to overcome the shortage of drinking water for these areas. It will be better for water projects to be taken under Multi Village Scheme.
Madhwaraj directed MESCOM officials to provide power connections to drinking water pump sets as soon as possible. He also directed Assistant Executive Engineer Sathish to inspect the functioning of all the borewells, pumpsets and others in order to get drinking water without any obstacles for the water supply. If needed, sufficient borewells to be produced and sufficient drinking water to be provided, he said.
Madhwaraj said in reply to the question that Modi government had stopped funding the Multi Village Scheme for the drinking water. Both the Union government and state government used to contribute funds for MVS which now only state would have to decide on the funding of MVS.
Sathish, Assistant Executive Engineer , Munjunathaiyya Udupi Muncipal Commissioner, Janardhan Thonse, Zilla Panchayat Member, Dr. Sunitha Shetty, Taluk Panchayat member and others participated during the important meeting.
