Mangaluru: The Centre for Social Concern (CSC), St Aloysius College conducted an awareness programme for the general public on solid waste management at NMPT staff colony at Panamboor recently.
As many as 90 students from the departments of Political Science, Social Work and Business Management participated in the programme. CSC coordinator Sharon along with Chethan, junior health inspector of the ward, took initiative of organising this programme.
Students were guided by Deena D’Souza, AratiShanbhag, and Alwin D’Souza, staff members of the college. Students along with the staff members visited around 100 homes in the community and spoke to people regarding the importance of managing house hold waste effectively. Students informed people about the need of reduce, reuse and recycle of waste.
Students were accepted warmly by the people and they shared their worries and difficulties in managing waste with the students. Before this session, students visited Pachanady dumping yard and vermicomposting plant and studied the waste disposal procedure of MCC. Students were trained with a module of ‘Problems of and need for solid waste management’ in the college by CSC staff members. CSC is a department of St Aloysius College which works with people on various social issues.
