Mangaluru: B A (human resources) student of Alvas institution has brought laurel to the college. 19-year-old Dharun Ayyaswamy, a lad from a small village near Aviniashi in Tamil Nadu is all set to represent India in Rio Olympics, scheduled to be held from August 5 in the 4×400 mts relay. Out of the six member relay team, Dharun happens to be the youngest. He had covered 400 mts in 46.31 seconds and his outstanding performance at the All India Athletics last year had grabbed him lot of attention.

Having lost his father at the age of 11, his mother K Poongodi, a teacher in a private school in Kaniyampoondi supported his sporting wholeheartedly.

However, Dharun seems to have overcome all the hurdles as he has now found a sponsor. This apart, a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 given by Alva’s College of Arts at Moodabidri has been helping the family meet sundry expenses incurred to participate in sports events.

Alvas Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva has wished good luck to the lad.
