Manipal: The inmates of Asare, home for the special children, here in Manipal ventured into a bit of farming by planting paddy saplings in a field measuring 600 square feet near their dwelling place on Saturday. Last year was the first time they planted the saplings and the yield was pretty good, so this year again they have done it. Whatever paddy is harvested, is used as poultry feed for the chicken bred at Asare.
On the occasion, a parent of one of the inmates, Shilpika Sunder of Mumbai, donated 40 blankets to Asare. These were distributed by Mrs Indira Ballal, wife of Pro Chancellor, Manipal University, Dr H.S.Ballal, Col Badrinarayan, Director General Services and Nirpa Srinivas, Senior Manager finance.
