B C ALVA SPORTS COMPLEX to be inaugurated by Javagal Srinath

Mangaluru: Nitte Education Trust one of the renowned educational institutions of undivided South Kanara has established a state-of-the-art sports facilities B C ALVA SPORTS COMPLEX at its Nitte Campus near Karkala.


Late Sri Bellipady Chandrahasa Alva (1923 to 1982). He served as Chief Engineer of Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB). Later was deputed as Chairman of Bhakra Beas Management Board, Chandigarh. He was an Indian Cricketer and represented India at two unofficial test matches against Common Wealth XI in 1951-52. He represented Madras from 1944-45 to 1954-55. He captained Tamilnadu team. He played for Karnataka (then Called Mysore)in the year 1957-58 and 1958-59.

The facilities in the B C ALVA SPORTS COMPLEX include an indoor stadium of 14000 sqft which has 3 Badminton Courts, one Basket Ball Court, facilities for Table Tennis and other indoor games like carom and chess, a modern Multi gymnasium, Individual Exercise Stations for Weight lifting and Power Lifting and Separate fitness centre for athletes.

The outdoor facilities are:

Standard Athletic turf Track of 400 mts. and facilities for all types of throws & Jumps and Pavilion with fitness centre 

One Cricket field and 3 cement and clay cricket pitches for practicing

One Hockey field

Three Volley Ball and Throwball courts

One Hand Ball court

Two Basket Ball courts

Foot Ball field

Kabaddi court, Kho Kho court, Net Ball Court


These facilities have been created on a land of 12 acres and at a total cost of Rs. 12 crores. The multigymnasium and wooden-floored basketball indoor court have been made at a cost of Rs. 2 crores, while the turf coated athletic track, cricket, football and hockey fields, pavilion, outdoor basket ball court and other facilities have been made at a cost of Rs 10 crores.

The inauguration of these facilities will be done by former Indian cricketer and current ICC Match Referee, Sri. Javagal Srinath on 7th of April at 4pm in the presence of Sri. K . Abhayachandra Jain, Minister for Youth Services, Sports and Fisheries, Govt of Karnataka and Justice N. Santosh Hegde, Former Lokayukta of Karnataka. Sri N Vinay Hegde, President Nitte Education Trust & Chancellor, Nitte University will preside over the function.

The Nitte Education Trust campus, Nitte under the Presidentship of Sri N Vinaya Hegde is aimed at connecting and transforming the potential of individuals across the diverse spectrum. Conceptualized in 1979, Nitte Education Trust is well recognised in the field of education, health-care and sports. The Trust supports budding and promising sports men and women by giving free education along with diet and hostel facilities. Technical support and training is given by a team of experienced coaches, medical and physiotherapy care. The sports quota students are studying in the highschool, polytechnic, degree college, Management institute and in the engineering college of which the non-local students stay in a separate hostel. A swimming pool of international standard 50mts with 8 lanes and an indoor volleyball court and badminton court are the additions that will made soon at a cost of Rs 6 crores.
