Puttur: Two persons died on the spot and eight others sustained injuries after the car in which they were travelling hit a tree beside the highway. The accident took place at Ichlampady cross near Periyashanti under Uppinangady limits.

The deceased have been identified as Suresh and Varija, residents of Kodangai in Vittal. 10 persons had travelled to Sakleshpur to attend a house warming cermony. The accident occured on the way back.
Eight others, including two children, sustained injuries. Four of them have been identified as Kalyani, Shubhalata, Pradeep and Santosh. Among them, Pradeep's condition is said to be serious.
Uppinangady police have registered a case.
