Christmas get together at St Philomena College Puttur

Puttur: Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. In order to share the happiness of Christmas with the well wishers of the college St. Philomena College and St. Philomena P.U College had organized a Christmas get together on 19th December, 2014 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall, St. Philomena College.

To mark this special day the dignitaries cut the cake.

Rev.Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director and Chairperson of P.G Studies and Research Centre in his introductory speech said that whoever has supported the development of our college activities are the members of our family and to celebrate Christmas with them is really a privilege. Christmas is not only a celebration for a Christians but also for everyone. He concluded by blessing and wishing everyone to have a peaceful, holy and a happy Christmas.

Participating in the celebration, Mr. Nanya Achutha Mudithaya, Managing Trustee of Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Puttur said, “Having born as a human being we should know the responsibilities and grow with humanitarian traits. The spirit of Christmas or any other festival should not only remain as a celebration instead the value of the festival should be adopted in everybody's life."

Mr. Jagadish Shetty Nellikatte, President of Puttur Municipality said that Christianity in its prayer as well as their personal behaviour propagates peace and coexistence.

Prof. B.J Suvarna, Former HOD of Physics of the College, speaking during the occasion said, “Christmas is celebrated worldwide irrespective of any religion. The speciality of Christianity is that the Lord Almighty himself was born as a human being to spread the message of love, peace and happiness."

He also said, “In the present day when there is so much of insecurity and terrorism activities, Christmas, Deepavali and Iftar provides bit of solace to the disturbed minds."

Mr. Ganesh Rao, the President of Parent Teachers Association of St. Philomena College, Mr. Jayakumar M.R, the President of Alumni Association, Sr. Amirita, Headmistress of Bethany School, Mr. GopalaKrishna Bhat, Manager of Corporation Bank, Darbe, were also present.

Ms. Sahana Rao and group of St. Philomena PU College sang the prayer song. Prof. Leo Noronha, the Principal of St. Philomena College extended a warm welcome to the gathering. Rev.Fr Vijay Lobo, Principal of St. Philomena PU College proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Anjali Rai, HOD of Journalism compered the programme.

Puttur: In order to share the happiness of Christmas with the well wishers of the college St Philomena College and St Philomena P U College had organized a Christmas get together on December 22, 2016 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of the College.

Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Member, Syndicate of Mangalore University participated as the chief guest. After cutting the Christmas cake, in his message, he emphasized the essential qualities of a human being like love, peace, sacrifice and brotherhood. He also said that in the present day situation, educational institutions have imperative duty to strive for maintaining communal and social harmony.

Mrs. Shakunthala Shetty, MLA of Puttur Constituency and Parliamentary Secretary spoke on this occasion and said, ‘Christmas is celebrated to rejoice over the birth of Jesus Christ, who is believed to be the son of God. Jesus Christ gave a new and a spiritual turn to the lives of man.’

Puttur: In order to share the happiness of Christmas with the well wishers, St Philomena College and St Philomena PU College organized a Christmas Get Together on December 22, 2017 in college auditorium.

The Managing Director of Adarsha Hospital, Puttur Dr M K Prasad Bhandary participated as the chief guest. After cutting the Christmas cake, in his message, he said, ‘Christmas does not belong to Christians alone. It belongs to the whole world. Jesus Christ, the son of God came to this earth to improve the mankind. It is the duty of every one of us to maintain peace and religious harmony in the society.’

The Campus Director Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro highlighted the objectives and significance of Christmas Get Together.

The Principal of St Philomena PU College Rev Fr Vijay Lobo in his message said, ‘Christmas is a festival of experiencing God’s love. It tells us to become a good human being.’

Ms. Sahana Rao and group sang the prayer song. The Principal Prof. Leo Noronha extended a warm welcome to the gathering. The members of Divya Chethana Association sang the Christmas carols. The administrative staff of the college Mrs. Mariet Shirly D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. The Assistant Professor Mr. Prashanth Rai compered the programme.
