Chu Hui Xin bags MMMC’s best student award

Manipal: Melaka Manipal Medical College, Manipal Campus, celebrated the 18th College Day and Awards Ceremony on Friday at Fortune Inn Valley View lawns. It was unique as usual, different from the annual days celebrated by the other institutions of Manipal University. No chief guest in particular and therefore no speeches. Dean of the College, Dr Ullas Kamath presented the annual report along with associate deans, Dr Annamma Kurien and Dr Arun Prakash to start the programme and the Vice Chancellor, Dr H Vinod Bhat concluded it with a word in appreciation.

The rest of the programme was a good mix of, recognition of academic excellence and entertainment. What’s special about MMMC’s annual days is that it has no announced theme. But, a theme can be perceived as the programme unfolds. It had images of diversity among the students this time. The backdrop, the invocation and the faculty entertainment had diversity written all over.

The star of the day was Chu Hui Xin who waltzed away with the Dr. T M A Pai gold medal for the best outgoing student in MBBS Phase I and became the first student in the history of MMMC to be awarded all the top prizes reaching the pinnacle in academics at MMMC, Manipal Campus. She attributed her marvellous achievement to her family, faculty and friends.

She earned her spurs because; she was the best student in anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, had the highest aggregate marks in phase I Stage I, was the best student in Phase I Stage I, was also the best student in Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine, had the highest aggregate marks In Phase I Stage IIa, was the best student in Phase I Stage IIa, won the Dr. Shobha Nadig Gold Medal in Pharamacology, had a total of seven distinctions in Stage I And Stage IIa and finally had 100% attendance in both Phase I Stage I And Stage IIa.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the students who had 100% attendance and the distinction holders. Then the students who excelled in each subject, those with highest overall aggregate and also the best outgoing students were presented with mementos and certificates of appreciation. The best outgoing students are as follows:

In BDS (Batch 6) Phase 1 Year 1 university examination held in August 2015: Ms. Nicole Loh Zie Xian. In MBBS (batch 35) Phase I Stage I university examination held in September 2015: Ms. Prinietha Chandran. In MBBS (Batch 34) Phase I Stage I university examination held in March 2015: Ms. Teh Ee Lyn. The Shoba Nadig Memorial prize for the second best outgoing student in MBBS Phase I was awarded to Mr. Khoo Jing Hern.Faculty achievements were also recognized in the programme.
