Couple fight; husband serious, wife dies

Bantwal: A couple working as labourers got engaged in verbal altercation. At the end, in a fit of anger, the wife got doused with kerosene and set herself afire. The couple is of Kerala origin. Annamma (54) from Idukki district in Kerala, died in this tragic incident. Her husband, Abraham Philippose alias Babu (59), is being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital.

The two had arrived from Kerala a few months back to work in a rubber plantation belonging to family of Kerala origin at Peruvai near Vittal. They were put up at Nekkarekadu Adka. Babu came home fully drunk on Saturday evening after which loud verbal exchanges were heard.

After Annamma suffered grave burn injuries, she was rushed in a jeep to Vittal. From there, she was being taken to Puttur by an ambulance, when she died on the way. In the meanwhile, Babu, who was found to be getting washed away in river was rescued by locals who admitted him into the government hospital at Kasargod.
