Dr Ragavendra Baliga wins American College of Cardiology's 'Gifted Educator Award'

Mangaluru: Dr Baliga was picked as the winner from among several nominees for the 'gifted educator award' by the American College of Cardiology for his passion towards educating the medical students. He accepted the award at the convocation of the college’s 66th annual scientific session in Washington on Sunday, March 19.

A fellow doctor, Jagat Narula,MD,PhD expresses his that Dr Baliga deserves this honour for his dedication to educating cardivascular professionals and the general population.

Dr Baliga has excelled as an educator in the Asian, European and North American continents. He currently serves as a professor and associate director of cardiology at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. After completing medical school at St John's Medical College, Bengaluru he has taught at the Bangalore Medical College, Royal Postgraduate Medical School at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College of Medicine, University of Aberdeen, Harvard Medical School and University of Michigan.

He has over 350 editorial comments, blog posts on the ACC's websites to his credit. As the website's e-learning editor or associate editor for education, he had introduced key features, including EKG of the month and image of the month, that have helped engage visitors.

He has also co-edited several textbooks in cardiology and his books have been translated to Mandarin, Polish and Italian. He has also served as consulting editor of the heart failure clinics of North America for five years and currently serves as the deputy editor for global heart.
