Five killed as bus hits Omni and bike at Yellapur

Yellapur: In a tragic incident, five persons, including four of a family, were killed on the spot in a accident between an Omni, bike and a private bus at Gullapur in the early hours of Sunday March 6. The deceased have been identified as Devu Jadav (35), Shashikala Devamma (42), Askhata Devamma (22) and Sharada (55) who were in the Omni.

The bike rider whose identity is yet to be ascertained was also killed on the spot. The family was travelling by Omni from Haliyal to Dharmasthala when a Ganesh Travels bus plying from Mangaluru to Gokak rammed into the vehicle. The bus then hit a bike, killing its rider instantly.

Three others of the same family who were in the Omni sustained serious injuries. They have been identified as Dyamanna (45), Jyothi (19) and Anil (12). Recklessness and negligence on the part of the bus driver is said to have caused the accident.

A case has been registered in Yellapur police station.
