Mangaluru,: The Karnataka High Court commuted the death sentence of Cyanide Mohan, the notorious serial killer, to five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 in the case of rape and murder of Leelavathi of Vamadapadavu near Bantwal. He was earlier sentenced to death by the Sessions Court of Mangaluru.

The High Court divisional bench led by Justice John Michael D’Cunha and Justice Ravi Malimutt gave the judgement on the grounds that the prosecution has failed to prove the rape and murder. The court however said it found Mohan guilty of robbing the woman’s valuables.

Mohan is facing charges of raping and killing over 20 women using cyanide pills between 2004 and 2009.
