Mangaluru: An honest auto driver was rewarded for handing over a bag of a passenger which was stashed with gold and valuables running into lakhs of rupees, to the police.
Auto driver Prathap Shetty, resident of Jeppu Kuthpady took Bengaluru residents Prashanth, an engineer by profession and his wife Deepthi in his auto from KSRTC bus stand in Bejai to Kulai. When the couple alighted from auto they forgot to take the handbag and even the auto driver did not notice the same at that point of time.
After a while auto driver Pratap Shetty found the bag lying on the backseat and immediately rushed to Mangaluru north police station and handed over the same to SI Shanth Kumar. The driver was given cash award of Rs 5000 along with a certificate of appreciation by the city police commissioner Chandrashekar.
