Human rights violations are more in communally sensitive twin district of coastal Karnataka – Smt. Meera Saxena

Udupi :Smt. Meera Saxena, IAS, President of Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, in her inaugural and keynote address during Human Rights Information and workshop held at Ravindra Kalyana Mantapa, M. G. M. College, Udupi on Friday, 16th October, 2015 said that Even though it is one of the most literate districts in Karnataka D. K. and Udupi, it registered most number of complaints in regard to communal linked cases.

She said communal clashes more in D.K. District in Karnataka even though one of the most literate district of the state. We adopted democratic set up, even all religions. Communities based clashes not tolerable specially in coastal districts of Karnataka.

Human Rights Commission in Karnataka established 8 years ago in 2007. There were 52,000 complaints registered in the commission. Out of that 38,000 cases were solved and still 15,000 cases are pending. Women did not receive around 50% of social justice and 70% children did not get justice.

There are plenty of complaints received in child labour and child abuse. Children should get minimum education. Some of the parents send their children to work. There is no equality for children, women, handicapped and others. There are plenty of cases in regard to harassment from police. Some cases of complaints on pollution of water, pollution of environment, shortage of medicines in government hospitals, mistreatment of old age people etc.,

One can register complaint through the phone also. She gave wide information on all aspects of the Human Rights.

On the dais, Robert D’Souza, National President of Indian Human Rights Committee, Santhosh Kumar Additional Superintendent of Police, Udupi district, Srinivas Gowda State President of Indian Human Rights Committee,Guruprasad Tahasildhar of Udupi, Ln. Sridher Sheneva, Lions District Governor, Dist. 317C, Prakash Kanive, Principal of Vaikunta Baliga Law College, Udupi, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, President of District Legal committee, Udaya Kumar Shetty Inna, District President of Human Rights Committee, B. G. Laxmikanth Beskoor state official and Udupi District representative, Rathnakar Indrali District General Secretary, Manohar Shetty Thonse District Treasurer, Mohd. Maula Udupi, Denish Bangera, V. G. Shetty, Jayashree Krishnaraj Malpe and others were present.

Earlier, the programme started with an invocation. The programme was inaugurated by Meera Saxena. Ln Jayakar Shetty Indrali welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Meera Saxena was felicitated by the women members of Human Rights committee. Udaya Kumar Shetty Inna compered the programme.
