The sand was illegally carried to Hosangady from somewhere and stacked there sometime back. The concerned were trying to use the permit issued for the heap of sand at Hosangady that was recently seized and auctioned, for transporting this sand. They were taking the sand to Bengaluru.

The tipper drivers, on seeing police vehicles on patrol duty, tried to give them a slip. The policemen grew suspicious, chased the vehicles and stopped them. During their questioning, the truth came out.
