Kundapur, June 9: The land cost at Kundapur is increasing day by day. In such a situation, Holy Rozary Church of Kundapur, keeping in view the welfare of the society, has decided to give up its own land at free of cost to the Municipality for the development of Kundapur, widening of road, drainage, etc.

As the Maddhugudde connection road which is on the right side of the Church is very narrow, the municipality has requested the Church to give up their land few months back for widening of the road.

The Management Board of Holy Rozary Church and the Christians have decided to give up the land of about 200 X 3 feet, keeping in view the benefit of the public and the development of the city. This decision has been appreciated by all.

Holy Rozary Church has got a history of about 450 years and was founded in 1570 at Kundapur Fort Gate. This is the very old church of Udupi Diocese.

St. Joseph Vaj, the Great miracle man has provided his service in this Christian Congregation of Kundapur. When he was servicing here, involved much in prayer, the God has picked him up in air and listened to his prayer. Even now also, St. Joseph Vaj has been helping his devotees.

Mother Mary’s japamala of a Christian was founded by a person belonging to another caste. When he was facing trouble, it was given back to the Rozary Church as suggested by his Swamiji.

The Parish Priests of Kundapur have been striving hard in providing education since many years for the welfare of the society. This Church has got many educational institutions, namely St. Mary’s Higher Primary School, St. Mary’s High School, Holy Rozary English Medium School, and St. Mary’s P.U. College. St. Mary’s Group of Institutions has provided greater contributions to the field of education in Kundapur along with popularity.

Kundapur Holy Rosary Church has showed interest in providing education to poor girls by opening schools for their development. As per the suggestion of the Parish Priest here, with the permission of the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese of that time, the school was founded and request was made to Carmel sisters to run that school. That school has become popular as St. Joseph Convent School.

The Church is now donating its own land for the development of Kundapur and thoughts of this kind will encourage others also to act in this way. Even before also, the Church has shown its generosity by donating its land.

The Christian community has been contributing much to Kundapur academically. Rev. Anil D’Souza, the Chief Parish Priest of Holy Rozary Church, President of Supervisory Board and Dean of Kundapur Deanery said, “We are giving up our land for widening of road for the development of Kundapur, without any expectation. This is an inducement by Jesus. This year is celebrated as “merciful year” as per the wish of Pope and we are donating this contribution for the development”.

“It’s our duty to give favourable response for the development of our place. As per the decision of all Christians, we are giving up Church’s land at free of cost. We wish to emphasize on development”, said Johnson D’Almeida, the Vice President.
