Udupi (The Hindu): Prithveesh K., a 21-year-old youth from Cherkady in Udupi district, who has been teaching students to solve the Rubik’s Cube, has entered the India Book of Records for the “most students trained in solving Rubik’s Cube in a year”.

A press release issued here on Tuesday said that for the last one year, Mr. Prithveesh, a Rubik’s Cube buff, has trained more than 500 students by holding workshops in places such as Pethri, Mangaluru, Cherkady, Dharmasthala and Puttur.

An engineering student from the SDM Institute of Technology, Ujire, Dakshina Kannada, he took to solving the Rubik’s Cube two years ago. After thoroughly studying solutions for it, he used simple memory techniques to help the children solve it.

“Rubik’s Cube mainly improves ‘brain-hand-eye’ coordination level. By solving the cube, one can improve concentration power and memory power too,” he said.

Last year, he wrote a book, “Rubik Magic”, which contains a set of easy memorising formulae for children to solve the Rubik’s Cube by themselves.

On his future goal, he said, “I am now interested in training more students and developing ‘speed-cubers’ from the region.”
