International Women's Day celebrated by district Women congress

Udupi: District Mahila Congress organized International Women’s Day and felicitation to ZP and TP women candidates held at Congress Bhavan, Brahmagiri here on Saturday, 19th March, 2016.

The programme inaugurated by Pratapchandra Shetty MLC with lighting the lamp. Pramod Madhwaraj MLA was the chief guest during the inaugural programme. Pramod Madhwaraj said that women are capable to the family as well as good governance. Congress Party is the only party which giving priority and reservation system to women in the country. He said the Congress party has done various programmes like a record number of BPL card issues, but the performances in Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections not so satisfactory. The winners of Zilla and Taluk Panchayat members should devote themselves to the service of the people and they have more responsibilities than losing candidates. The election losers should not lose faith to serve the people. Losing will be the part of success in the life. The losers should serve people better and so can ready for the next elections.

In the democratic system the judgment of the people will be the final in regard to the election results. The losers should not lose the faith of the people as well as the party which they got tickets to contest. We should find out the reasons for the poor performances in the past elections of ZP and TP. First, we think why we need to enter into the politics and we should judge ourselves the role in the development of the people. He conveyed best to the newly elected women members of ZP and TP.

The women winning members as well as women contesters’ were felicitated during the occasion. Smt Veronica Cornelio President of District Women Congress presided over the occasion. Jayashree Krishnaraj KPCC member, Sarala Kanchan KPCC member, Amrith Shenoy Congress youth leader, Gopi K Naik, Meenakshi Bannaje, Geetha Wagle, Laxmi Bhat, Malini Rai, Sujatha, Jyothi Puthran, Sadhu Billava, Mamatha Shetty and other among present.

District Women Congress vice President Jyothi Hebbar gave the introductory speech and welcomed the gatherings. Roshni Olivera and Dr. Sunitha Shetty compered the programme.
