Mangaluru: A protest meet was organised at Nehru maidan football ground here on Monday, March 28 by JD (S) district unit led by its youth wing along with sand workers, opposing the unavailability of sand and condemning the failure of the district administration to form a sand policy.

"District deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim should resign for the post as he is responsible for the problems faced by the sand workers. Thousands of families of sand workers have come to the road due to the probation on sand mining in the district. He has failed to implement a sand policy," said Akshit Suvarna, district president of JD(S) youth wing.

District president of JD(S) Mohammed Kunhi alleged that the deputy commissioner Ibrahim too is involved with the sand mafia and asked him to resign.

The protesters later on marched towards the DC's office in a procession along with the lorries and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
