KSRTC strike: Schools, colleges to remain open

Mangaluru (TOI): Dakshina Kannada district will not have holidays on Monday and Tuesday, said the deputy commissioner. As the district is more dependent on private transport, the deputy commissioner has ordered that the two-day holiday declared by the state government, in view of KSRTC employees stir, will not be applicable to the district.

In a comminque from the district information office, the DC said that in DK, schools and colleges will function normally. But social media is abuzz with statements against this order since rural areas of the district still uses KSRTC buses. A source said there were 17,000 bus passes issued to students in Outtur taluk. Similar situation exists in Sullia, Subrahmany and other taluks where private transport services is not that robust.

Meanwhile, divisional controller, KSRTC Mangaluru maintained that all the employees under its depot have assured of not joining the strike and have decided to work on Monday. V I Hegde, divisional controller said that as many as 470 buses, both long and short routes will offer services. We have obtained signatures from all employees saying that they will report to work and will not disrupt services.
