Kannada-Tulu writer Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty no more

Mangaluru: Renowned Kannada and Tulu writer from the land, Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty breathed his last on Sunday, August 7. He was 74.

Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty wrote in Kannada and Tulu languages. ‘Ponnu Mann-da Bombe’ his Tulu drama written in 1973 was very popular. He wrote an authoritative essay on Kambala , the traditional coastal buffalo sport, in 1983. The essay was the first scientific documentation on Kambala, which is taken as reference even now. In 1990, he wrote the Kannada novel ‘Alidhulidhavaru’ which made him very famous. The novel depicted the inheritance system in the land.

He wrote ‘Kudi’ a Kannada novel in 2005 and ‘Neer’ Tulu drama in 2006. ‘Binnedi’ a book on folksongs was written in 2006. He brought out several anthologies of poetry in Kannada and Tulu both.

He received many awards including Tulu 'Gaurava Award' in 2012, Shri Krishna Vadirajanugraha Award-Udupi Paryaya Sode Mutt in 2012 and Rajyotsava Award-Literature in 2013.

Bola Chittaranjandas in survived by wife and two sons.
