Udupi: In Alevoor near Udupi, Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samiti had organized 11th year “Kesard Onji Dina” muddy field sports and games on Sunday in Doddamane fields. Hundreds of locals; children, men and women participated and enjoyed every bit of it forgetting their age differences.

The enthusiasm of the youth participating in this rural sport knew no bounds. They participated in games such as tug-of-war, running race, race wearing gunny bags and forming human pyramids to break an earthen pot. Every year during such events the rising rain used to be inspirational.

It was not just the young, even children and middle-aged persons joined, adding to the convivial atmosphere. There were separate competitions for the women also. While games were one part of it, the sheer joy of participating in such an event held during the monsoon under the open clouded skies and amidst drizzle attracted many.

Some simply got into the slushy waters and danced to the tunes of music, which blared from the loudspeakers.
People from nearby villages including Korangarapady, Marpalli, Manipura and Moodubelle too had come to participate in the event besides those from Udupi.
