Mangaluru: The school management under the leadership of the principal of Lourdes Central School, Fr Robert D’Souza, organised 'A mite from a Lourdite', as collection drive for the relief operation to the flood hit state of Kerala and Kodagu district in Karnataka.

It was heart warming to watch the mite transform into a bounty of ration from loads of toiletries to sanitary wear, stationery, plastic items like buckets, new clothes, dry food items, mineral water and the like. Every student and staff contributed to the relief work organised by Lourdes Central School from August 21.

The total collection amounted to almost one truck load, that was sorted, packed and then delivered by the students of Class 11 and 12 and a couple of teaching and non teaching staff led by Anita Thomas and Henry Mascareanhs, with the whole operation overlooked by Father principal.

Around this time the students were visited by Fr Ashwin Cardoza, the assistant director of ICYM, who narrated to them his first-hand experience with the victims of the flood and what the ICYM mission was and gave them a few words of encouragement.

The principal was overwhelmed and touched by the generous contribution in cash and kind made by all. This generosity only showed that every Lourdite was a drop in the ocean which made a big difference in the life of the Kerala and Kodagu people who are suffering profusely due to floods.
