Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation has proposed to introduce a rule that those who rear pet dogs should compulsorily obtain a license from the Corporation. The subject will come for discussion in the next council meeting. The new rule will be put into practice if it is approved in the meeting.

The Corporation has assigned the work of controlling street dogs to Animal Care trust. However when they go to catch the dog, they are confused whether the dog is street dog or pet dog. The corporation intends to bring about the rule to clear the confusion. The rule will lay down conditions for rearing of dogs.

The control of street dogs by the trust comprises of administering medicine to the dogs twice in a week to prevent reproduction. The trust keeps the dogs with them for ten days after that and later set them free. A mark is made on the ears of such dogs.
