MOGS celebrate women's day with inaugural meet

Mangaluru: Mangalore obstetric and gynaecological society (MOGS) is a professionalorganisation of obstetricians and gynaecologists in the city. Ever since its inception it has only grown. Their motto being, “Where gynaecologists who care, come together to share.

This society aims to achieve and set the standards for physical, mental and reproductive health for women, in and around the city. MOGS collaborates with FOGSI (Federation of obstetricians and gynaecologists of India) and many other health organisations.

It is also a forum for obstetricians and gynaecologists to share their experiences and to gain knowledge on the current trends in clinical practice. Their vision is to strengthen the practice of obstetrics and gynecology in the city, to ensure that women have a better quality of life and a healthy living.

Mangalore Ob Gyn society also aims to reduce the maternal mortality rate and cancer death rates in the region, in sync with the millennium development goals.

MOGS held its inaugural meet for the year 2016 – 2017, at Hotel Deepa Comforts at 8.00 pm on March 18. This meet marked the celebration of Women’s day 2016 by MOGS, an organistion that works to protect and promote women health. The inaugural meet included the installation ceremony of the office bearers, namely MOGS president Dr Prema D'Cunha and her executive team. The highlight was a guest lecture and presentation by Dr Vidya Bhat, eminent gynaecologist, laparoscopic surgeon and IVF specialist from Radhakrishna Multispeciality Hospital, Bengaluru. She enlightened the city's gynaecologists on 'current trends and complications in laparoscopic surgery”. Dr Bhat encouraged the obstetricians and gynaecologists to cultivate and maintain an attitude of honesty and transparency with their patients, especially in dealing with surgical complications.

IMA president and MOGS former president Dr Amrita Bhandary was felicitated by Dr Manorama Rao and Dr Mahale.

The meeting included an announcement of the organisation’s plans for the year 2016-2017. This includes health awareness campaigns for women, cancer careening camps and numerous CMEs and guest lectures for the gynaecologists here to help them in their clinical practice.
