Mangalurean girl wins national piano contest in Pune

Pune: Mangaluru-based girl, Priya Ann Fernandes, has won the first prize at the national piano festival and competition, MusiQuest, that was recently held at the Academy of Music in Pune. As many as 150 participants and 23 teachers from across the country participated in the fifth edition of the festival.

The contest was held in four categories of piano learners - Preliminary (Beginner to Grade 2), Junior (Grades 3 to 5), Intermediate (Grades 6 to 8) and Advanced (Diplomas). Fernandes emerged the topper in the Advanced category.

The prize carries a part scholarship at the International Institute of Young Musicians (Kansas, USA).

Nipun Malhotra from Delhi and Alique Khambatta from Pune bagged the second and third prizes, respectively.
