Milagres Cathedral observed Palm Sunday with reverence and devotion

Udupi: Palm Sunday was observed in the Milagres Cathedral of Udupi Diocese, Kallianppur with great reverence and devotion on Sunday, 20th March, 2016. At 8 am, the faithful gathered at the entrance of the Milagres Cathedral by holding coconut palm leaves, where Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Rector of the Cathedral blessed the palms and conducted brief liturgy.

Following the brief liturgy, the faithful people holding blessed coconut palm leaves proceeded towards the Cathedral for the Eucharistic celebrations led by the cross, altar boys, Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Rev Fr. Rolwin Aranha Asst. Parish Priest, Rev Fr. Denis Lobo and Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado Vocational Directors of Pilar Fathers and Deacon Denis Miranda.

The Solemn Palm Sunday Mass was concelebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo wherein the Gospel passage depicting the passion and death of Jesus Christ was animated by the main celebrant of the mass.

On Palm Sunday, Christians along the world celebrate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, the week before Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. For many Christians, Palm Sunday, often referred to as “Passion Sunday’ marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday.

The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowd greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches, immediately this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the Cross.

The Cathedral was packed with full devotees where the choir led by Deacon Denis Miranda accelerated the devotion of Palm Sunday. At the end, Fr. Stany placed the announcements for the week.
