Monsignor Leslie Shenoy celebrates 40 years of priesthood

Mangaluru: Monsignor Leslie Shenoy, priest of diocese of Fresno, (now retired) celebrated his 40 years of priesthood with Holy Eucharist at Our Lady of Immaculate Church, Urwa, here.

Five bishops, 65 priests concelebrated in the Holy Eucharist. Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, preached the homily. The Kerala Drums welcomed the bishops, clergy and the people at the entrance of the church, which was much enjoyed by all. The church was packed with people, from Bendur, Bejai and Urwa parishes, along with Monsignor Shenoy family and friends.

After the Holy Eucharist, bishop of Mangaluru, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, read the papal blessing sent by Pope Francis and honoured monsignor Shenoy with a shawl. Bishop Henry D’Souza also honoured monsignor Shenoy. Monsignor Shenoy remembered and thanked all those who were instrumental for his life to complete 40 years as priest.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop Henry D’souza - bishop of Bellary, bishop Peter Machado - bishop of Belgaum, bishop John Thomas - bishop of Itanagar, bishop Cyprian Monis - bishop of Asansol, Fr Valerian D'Souza, Monsignor Denis Prabhu and other priests were present.

Monsignor Shenoy was ordained priest for the archdiocese of Calcutta on May 14, 1976 in his home parish, Urwa. While serving the FABC, in the year 1979, he made his first visit to United States of America. While returning to India, he obtained his green card, as a result every year he made a trip to USA to keep his green card active. After six years, in 1985 he took American citizenship. He served in three parishes, which also had air bases in the diocese of Fresno. He was elevated to Prelate of Honor by Pope John Paul II, who is now St John Paul.

His nephew, Allan Feranandes welcomed the gathering and Urwa parishioner, Santhosh Lobo conducted the choir.
