Karkala: “We Indians must be proud of the remarkable achievements of our own inventions in the field of space. It makes me very happy that we are the only country to accomplish Mission Mars in the first attempt,” said Guruprasad, Public Relations Executive, ISRO, Bengaluru.

Guruprasad spoke after inaugurating the ISRO Space Exhibition and a series of technical talks organised by the Department of Electronics & Communication, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte in association with ISRO. He said that goals can be achieved through the minimum available resources if planning is strong. Perseverance is very much essential to achieve success. He appreciated the efforts of the management of NMAM Institute of Technology in organising the event.

Dr Niranjan N Chiplunkar, principal of NMAM Institute of Technology in his presidential remarks expressed his concern about the less number of students opting for space research as their career. High school students should be given proper guidance on the opportunities in the field of space research. Programmes like these are rarely organised by institutions. Students from neighbouring schools and colleges should be benefited from these kind of programmes," he added.

Dr Rekha Bhandarkar, HOD of E & C, convener of the programme welcomed the gathering. Dr KVSSSS Sairam briefed about the two day space exhibition. Sunitha Lasrado introduced the chief guest. Dr Ananth A G, organising secretary of the exhibition delivered the vote of thanks. Student Jane Claudia Mathias compered the programme. Ashok Adyanthaya inaugurated the space exhibition by cutting the ribbon.

A rocket launch demo was performed by Guruprasad from ISRO. Students from neighbouring colleges and sister institutes were present. It was a water rocket built using a coke bottle which was aerodynamically stable and whose centre of gravity was concentrated at the extreme front.

The exhibition mainly aimed at displaying the journey of ISRO. Display of 10 satellite models made of brass, video displays and also colour panels showing the journey of ISRO in space were the main attractions.
