Puttur: Department of Library and Information Science of St Philomena College Puttur celebrated National Librarians’ Day on August 13, 2018 in college auditorium.

The Professor, Department of Studies in Library and Information Science, University of Mysore Dr M Chandrashekar in his inaugural address said, National Librarians’ Day is celebrated to pay tribute to Father of Library Science Dr S R Ranganathan on his birth day. It is matter of great happiness that the present day librarians play a vital role in various spheres of academic activities of the educational institutions.’

The Principal of St Philomena PU College Rev. Fr Vijay Lobo and Campus Director Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the guest of honour and expressed their compliments.

The Principal Prof. Leo Noronha in his presidential address said, ‘Library is the treasure house of knowledge. It can promote reading habits of the people. Today, smart devices have slightly replaced the use of books.’

The Assistant Librarian of the college Mr John Lobo was felicitated on the occasion of his superannuation. The chief guest of the programme and alumnus of the college Mr M Chandrashekar was felicitated for his achievements in the field of library and information science.

On this occasion, Mr Ramachandra, Librarian of GFGC Jidekallu, Puttur, Dr Ravichandra, Librarian of GFGC Belanduru and Bellare, Mr Niranjan, Librarian of GFGC Uppinangady, Ms. Vishalakshi, Librarian of St Philomena High School, Mr Santhosh Moras, Librarian of St Philomena PU College, Mr Manohar S G and Ms. Noothana Kumari M, Librarians of PG Centre, St Philomena College were honoured.

The members of Library Advisory Committee Dr A P Radhakrishna, Mr Subair, Mr Radhakrishna Gowda V, Ms Bharathi S Rai, Ms Geetha Poornima K and office bearers of the Students’ Council extended their support.

Mr. Satwik Bedekar presented the prayer song. The Selection Grade Librarian Mr. Abdul Rahman G welcomed the gathering. The Associate Professor of Commerce Dr Herbert Nazareth proposed the vote of thanks. The HoD of Kannada Mr Vijaya Kumar Moleyar compered the programme.
