National Voters Day celebrated at St Philomena College Puttur

Puttur: Dakshina Kannada District administration in association with Election Cell and suraksha consumer Forum of St Philomena College Puttur organized National Voters Day on January 25, 2016 in college auditorium.

The inaugurator of the programme Mr. Nagaraju, Additional Senior Civil Judge said, ‘The prime purpose of celebrating National voters Day is to woo more new votes and inspire the voters to exercise their franchise, when the occasion comes.’

The key note speaker Mr. B V Sooryanarayana, Lecturer, Government Pre University College Savanoor said, ‘National Voters Day is a national festival celebrated all over the nation to create awareness about the electoral process in a democratic system.’

DK Zilla Panchayath CEO and the President of District SVEEP Committee Ms. Srividya P I administered an oath to the voters.

Chief Guest Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director of the college said, ‘Indian democratic system is the biggest in the world and all the citizens must discharge their duties in a responsible manner.’

Deputy Commissioner Mr. A B Ibrahim in his presidential address said, ‘Youngsters who have reached the age of 18, have to participate in the electoral process, by enrolling or registering themselves in electoral rolls and to exercise their franchise.’

Electors’ Photo Identity Cards were distributed to some young voters and prizes were distributed to winners in various competitions held for high school and college students of the district.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kumar, Assistant Superintendent Mr. Rishyant C B and Tahashildar Mr. Sanna Rangayya graced the occasion.

Ms. Sahana Rao and team presented the prayer song. Assistant Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V welcomed the gathering. The Booth Level Officer Mr. Severine Mascarenhas presented the list of new voters. The convenor of Suraksha Consumer Forum of the College Prof. Dinakara Rao presented the list of prize winners in various competitions. Deputy Tahashildar Mr. Shridhar proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. B. J. Suvarna compered the programme.

Puttur: The Electoral Literacy Club of St Philomena College Puttur organized ‘National Voters’ Day’ on January 25, 2020.

The Convenor of the Club Mr Dinakara Rao delivered the introductory speech. He said, ‘National Voters’ Day is celebrated on 25th January every year, at all levels in India. This is the day of establishment of Election Commission of India. This celebration was started on January 25, 2011. This is the 10th year of its celebration. The main intention of this celebration is to create awareness about rights and duties of the eligible voters in our democratic system.’

The Principal Prof. Leo Noronha in his message said, ‘India is the largest democracy in the world. Here every citizen is supreme in the formation of the Government. It is our prime duty to take part in all the electoral process of the nation.’

Later, Prof. Leo Noronha dictated the voters pledge as, “We, the Citizens of India, having abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any other inducement.”

On this occasion, faculty members, administrative staff and the students were present.
