New building of Christ Church, Manipal inaugurated and blessed

Manipal : The newly built Christ Church was solemnly inaugurated and blessed on Saturday, 5th December, 2015 with befitting ceremony which was attended by Bishop of Udupi Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Shimoga Most Rev Dr. Francis Serrao along with large number of clergy and laity.

After the warm welcome to Bishops’ with brass band of the school, the plaque of the church was unveiled by donors Hilary and Lorna Pinto and inaugurated the church corridor. Jerry Vincent and Molly Dias inaugurated the grotto of Divine Mercy while Walter and Thelma Almeida inaugurated the grotto of Mother Mary and the fountain of Baptism was inaugurated by Julian and Cynthia Lewis.

The new church building Architect Deepak D’Souza handed over the keys of the Church to Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo and then Bishop handed over the keys to Church parish priest Rev Fr. Francis Lewis. Bishop, Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo inaugurated the church along with the parish priest Fr. Francis Lewis. The parish priest symbolically opened the main door of the church and entered the church for the blessing of the new church building and Eucharistic mass.

Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo concelebrated Eucharistic mass along with Bishop Francis Serrao and large priests of the undivided Mangalore Diocese. Bishop Rev Dr. Francis Serrao delivered meaningful homily and gave his message on the occasion of blessings of the newly built Christ church.

The church during the Eucharistic celebrations, systematically held blessings of the faithful, the walls of the church, crosses fitted on walls, Eucharistic table, tabernacle etc.

After the inauguration and blessings of the church with Eucharistic celebrations, formal stage programme was held. Two bishops, parish priest and assistant priest, Rev Fr. Charles along with five gurkars, Vice President, Pramila Fernandes and Secretary Joyce D’Souza of parish pastoral council were present on the dais.

The dynamic parish priest of the church, Rev Fr. Francis Lewis welcomed the gathering with his style. Fecilitations for benefactors, donors and others were held during the occasion. In his message, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo said that first he remembered the services of late Fr. Sylvester D’Souza, former parish priest and main architect of the establishment of parish community at Manipal and all the parish priests for their marvelous services at Manipal church. He especially appreciated present parish priest for his devoted services for Jesus and the community which Bishop requested to construct a new church building within a year and Fr. Francis Lewis fulfilled the promise to do so.

In his speech, Bishop of Shivmugga Most Rev Dr. Francis Serrao praised the parish priest for his outstanding qualities and character. He said that there would be four types of people like givers, receivers, applauders and the jealous. It would be sure that the faithful gathered here belong to the first three types. He appreciated the work done by the parish priest along with other concerned.

A documentary on yester years was displayed on the screen. At the end, Pramila Fernandes proposed vote of thanks. Advocate, Mary Shrista compered the programme. The fellowship meal was served to all the participants.
