Udupi: At least one lakh seed balls will be prepared in the surroundings of the Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt today. The preparation have already started in the morning and will conclude in the evening. The objective of the seed ball preparation programme is to protect the environment by increasing tree cover. The seed ball preparation programme is being organised by the youth organisation — Uttishta Bharatha.

The programme is part of the organisation’s aim to plant one crore saplings in the State. The programme was launched by Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt and Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swami, junior seer of Pejawar Mutt. The balls will be made with seeds of fruit-yielding plants mixed with soil, dung, and cow urine. The seeds chosen will be of those trees which are known to grow in the local area.

These seed balls will later be thrown or sown under the soil during the monsoon so that they can later grow into trees. People of all ages are welcome to join this initiative of preparing seed balls. The Pejawar seer has decided to provide a seed ball each to the devotees who visit him to get his blessings.

Pejawar seer had launched a programme of distribution of one crore saplings as one of the projects of his historic fifth Paryaya last year. This project was titled “Vishwa Raksha, Vruksha Raksha.” The intention of this project was to increase the green cover in the State. The seer had inaugurated a counter for distribution of free saplings near the rear gate of the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple here in mid June last year
