Petrol bunks in DK and Udupi to observe bundh on June 16

Mangaluru: Petrol bunks in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will remain closed from the midnight of June 15 till the midnight of June 16 as per the call for a state wide petrol bunk bundh to oppose the daily revision of petrol and diesel prices. The two districts have around 200 petrol bunks with each bunk selling 5000 litres to 6000 litres of petrol/diesel every day thereby undertaking a business of around Rs 10 crores.

This is the first time that petrol bunks in the district would be shut in the past six year period.
On June 14, a delegation of State Petroleum Dealers Federation is scheduled to meet Union Petroleum Minister in New Delhi highlighting their problem and opposing daily revision of prices. There is a possibility of withdrawing the strike in case the minister heeds to the demand.

Currently, petrol and diesel prices in India are usually revised every fortnight, when oil companies pass on the advantages/disadvantages of global crude fluctuations to consumers. The fuel retailers revise rates on 1st and 16th of every month based on average international price of the fuel in the preceding fortnight and currency exchange rate. Instead of using fortnightly average, pump rates will reflect daily movement in international oil prices and rupee-US dollar fluctuations.
