Petrol pumps in Karnataka to function on Sundays too

Published On : 22 Apr 2017   |  Reported By : Canaranews Network

Mangaluru: Karnataka State Federation of Petroleum Dealers (KSFPD) will function even on a Sunday. The stand taken by the federation scotched reports in media that petrol pumps in eight states including Karnataka will observe holiday on Sunday from May 14.

The federation also made light of the statement by a office bearer of Tamilnadu Petroleum Dealers’ Association that a person at the bunk will fill up fuel for customers who are facing an emergency.

K Vishwas Shenoy, general secretary of the federation, said this move (to have one person man the entire petrol pump) is not practical just as it is not for this person to decide on an emergency. Noting that the call (Sunday holiday) given was in response to a call by PM Narendra Modi for less consumption of petrol, the federation while welcoming the PMs idea, noted that the PM has not given any call in this regard or directed that pumps be closed on a Sunday.

A meeting of all India petroleum dealers association will be held on May 6 in which all this matter will be discussed and suitable decision taken, Vishwas said reiterating that no decision will be taken that will harm or inconvenience the general public. Incidentally, the petroleum ministry has denounced the decision of a section of petrol pump operators, mostly in South India, to keep outlets shut on Sundays, saying such a move will inconvenience the general public.
