Policed arrest two in gang rape incident

Puttur: Uppiangady police have arrested two persons relating to a case in which a woman was allegedly raped. The arrested accused are Dhananjaya (26), son of Damodar Gowda from Allingeri in Kokkada village, and Kushalappa (24), son of Dooja Mugera from Kollajepalike village.

Dhananjaya knew a lady from Padi village well. When the lady was in the house of her elder sister at Delampady on February 15, Dhananjaya is said to have called her on cellphone. Thereafter, he arrived at the spot with another friend, picked her up, and took her to a village fair. The lady said in her complaint that both of them forcibly took her to a shed adjoining to a vacant house near Nelyady, which is eight km away,and raped her there.

At around 1 am in the night, she was deserted at Uppinangady. The lady had filed complaint in Uppinangady police station on February 16. The operation to nab the accused was executed by Uppinangady rural police circle inspector, Gopal Naik, and Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Nandakumar.
