At the Kannada International Music Academy (KIMA) awards announced on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bangalore, Udupi's singing sensation Prajoth D’Sa bagged the Best Background Score Award for the Kannada short film Kaarembo. Incidentally, this is Prajoth's first attempt at doing a background score for a movie.

Receiving the award from actress Sonu Gowda amidst sandalwood's bigwigs like S.P Balasubramaniam and Raghu Dixit at the glittering ceremony, Prajoth thanked the film's director Rajesh Basappa and other teammates for helping him explore this new arena in the music field and for believing in his ability. He also thanked all his friends and well wishers for their constant love and support.

With Kaarembo, Prajoth not only debuted as the background scorer but also made his debut as a Music Director. He composed the song Neenillade which was also nominated in two categories.

In all, Prajoth was nominated under three categories at the KIMA awards; Best Music Director, Best Male Singer, and Best Background Music Score, all for the same film.

Kaarembo is a psychological thriller. Prajoth admits he was apprehensive doing the background score as scoring for thrilling visuals and sequences is challenging but adds he enjoyed doing it, took it as a challenge and gave it his best and the results are for all to see.
