Prajoth D'sa recreates the legendary song ‘Mog Tuzo Kithlo Ashelo’

It is always a delicate matter when you are asked to touch something that is sacred or recreate something that has already made its mark and wonder if you should or shouldn't do it. That's exactly how Prajoth says he felt when Sundeep Malani first approached him a couple of months ago to recreate the most popular Konkani song Mog Tuzo Kithlo Ashelo for his Hindi/English movie 'Maa - Yeh Cinemaa Hai' which was released recently on Mother's Day.

As we ask him to tell us more about the making of this version on mother, this is what Prajoth had to say:

"Though I was apprehensive about touching this legendary song, it’s the topic that touched me and I decided to give it a try.

My mother is special and she means the world to me. She has always been there for me displaying her love and by being a strong support in everything I do so, penning down something on her came naturally to me when I wrote the lyrics.

Working on the music one evening, I fine tuned the song and roped in my buddy Ashwin D'costa who is a fine singer and together we sang Maa in parts. I must admit recording this song was not easy for two reasons: one we had to do justice to the original song and live up to the expectations of all Konkani music lovers and, two, the lyrics were touchy and made us emotional. Sundeep was there to give us his inputs that night as we completed the recording."

As the song is getting circulated on social media and gaining popularity not just among Konkani listeners but also among others as the song has Konkani, English and Hindi in it, Prajoth says he keeps receiving a number of complimentary messages and calls which is overwhelming and would like to thank Sundeep for the opportunity and wish him all success with this movie.

The ever humble and down to earth Prajoth does not forget the legends behind the original song and concludes:

"I am grateful to the original makers of the song; Sri Wilfy Rebimbus, Sri Upendra Kumar and singer Sri P. B. Srinivas for making such a beautiful song for the Konkani movie 'Mog Ani Maipaas' without which the title song of “Maa" would not have received the kind of feedback it is receiving today."
