Mangaluru: Several private buses operating on the Mangaluru-Udupi-Kundapur route have reportedly increased their fares on the pretext that they have to pay toll. The move of the private buses even before the toll collection has commenced has irked commuters on this route. Many passengers have complained that it was unfair on the part of the bus operators to collect higher fares.
Meanwhile , Canara Bus Operators Association President Rajavarma Ballal says the hike in fare is inevitable as the buses will have to pay toll at Hejamady and Gundmi toll gates.
But the question of the passengers is how can the bus operators take a unilateral decision to increase the fares without consultation with RTO which is the decision making body.
