Rape accused's friend commits suicide

Mangaluru: The friend of a rape accused committed suicide and his body was found on Saturday late night, February 20 on a hill at Kumeru in Thenka Mijar near Moodbidri. The deceased is Shekara Poojary. He is survived by wife and two daughters.

Shekara was working in the kitchen department of a temple and was missing from February 10. A missing case registered on February 15. Shekara’s body was spotted by a lady who went to the hill in search of her cow. The body was found with a bottle of poison nearby. Police suspect that it was a suicide.

Appu Bhatta was an accused in a rape case. It was alleged that Shekara tried to give money to the family of the victim in order to bail out Appu Bhatta from the rape case. When the police learned about this, they charged Shekar and registered a case against him. It is believed, pained by the incidents related to the rape case, Shekara committed suicide.

A case has been registered.
