Puttur: The Department of Kannada and Samskriti of Government of Karnataka in association with St Philomena College Puttur organized ‘Samskritika Sourabha’ on September 18, 2017 in college auditorium.

The president of DK Zilla Panchayath Mrs. Meenakshi Shanthigodu inaugurated the programme and said, ‘Our Dakshina Kannada district is very popularly known as the cradle of rich cultural heritage of Karnataka. Here various forms of folk dances like Pili Vesha (Tiger dance), Karadi Vesha (Bear dance) etc, are performed in a fascinating manner during certain special occasions. It is the duty of every one to preserve and promote our unique cultural heritage.’

The President of Puttur Taluk Panchayath Mrs. Bhavani Chidananda, Principal Prof. Leo Noronha and Campus Director Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the chief guests. The President of Puttur Municipal Council Mrs. Jayanthi Balnadu presided over the programme.

This one day cultural presentation ‘Samskritika Sourabha’ by the senior artists of DK district included Karnataka Saxophone music by Mr. Chandrashekhara Kananthoor and team, Hindustani music by Ms. Vibha Nayak Mangalore and team, Light music by Mr. Jagadisha Acharya Puttur and team, Folk song by Mr. Shivananda Shenoy Puttur and team, Group dance by Vidwan U K Praveen Mangalore and team, Veeragase by Mr. Ramesh B K Vittal and team, Tiger dance by Mr. Vijay R Belthangady and team, Drama by Mrs. Mallika Shetty Siddakatte and team and Gamaka Vachana by Mr. Yajnesh Hosabettu and team.

The members of Performing Arts Association performed the prayer. The Assistant Director, Department of Kannada and Samskriti, DK District Mr. Chandrahasa Rai B deleviered the introductory speech. The Student Welfare Officer Dr Vijaya Kumar M welcomed the gathering. The Assistant Professor of Commerce Mr. Dinakara proposed the vote of thanks. The Student Welfare Officer Mrs. Bharathi S Rai coordinated the programme. The Assistant Professor of Business Administration Mr. Prashanth Rai compered the programme.
