Science Model Competition by BES held at Vamanjoor

Mangaluru: The Bethany Educational Society (BES), Mangaluru Province organised a Science Model Competition for the students of Primary and High School of BES (R), Mangaluru Province, at St Raymond's College Auditorium, Vamanjoor on Monday, November 7. The day coincided with the birthday of great Nobel Prize winners Madam Mary Curie and Sir C V Raman.

140 students of 28 Schools participated in the competition. Sr Shalet D'Souza BS, the Assistant Novice Directress of Rosa Mystica Novitiate, presided over the function. In her presidential speech, she said, "Scientific temper is a way of life - an individual and social process of thinking and acting - which uses a scientific method, which may include questioning and observing physical reality, amongst methods." She appreciated the students for their research ideas and the way they developed it.

John Valder, Associate Professor and HOD of Electricals and Electronics Department, P A Engineering College, Mangaluru, was the chief guest. He inaugurated the science model competition by launching a rocket that works on Newton’s third law. While appreciating the venture of the Bethany sisters, he applauded the students who presented the models in a creative manner, had innovative ideas, and were aware of the utility of the project alongside the impact of the research study. He said, the learning of science should help us contribute towards the welfare of the society.

Sr Mariola BS, provincial councillor and the coordinator of education of Mangaluru province was the convenor of the science model competition. In her welcome address, she highlighted the features of the millennial children in the digital era.

The far-sighted vision for the all-round growth of the students made the event a success. All the students of BES schools participated in the competition. Students were awarded in four categories. Prakash, Likitha and Geetha S were the evaluators of the competition who judged the competition based on the research idea, model design, presentation of the model, the usefulness of the Project and the overall impression of the model.

Students were awarded a certificate of participation and the winners, a certificate of award and a cash prize. Two of the participants expressed their gratitude in words to the BES for a unique platform created to exhibit scientific ideas and the opportunity to showcase potential.

Vasu Dev from Holy Family High School, Bajpe compèred the programme. Jolly from Madeleine High School Mulki acknowledged the role of everyone who contributed towards making the event a success and expressed sincere gratitude to BES (R) Mangaluru, and the corporate manager Sr M Cicilia Mendonca BS, in her absence.
