Seminar on Regional Eco-system was held at PPC, Udupi

Udupi: The country should develop agricultural sector as well as science and technology.  Green revolution hailed when food production of country increased.  But in previous few years food production of the country stagnated at 230 million tons due to persistent use of fertilizers that led to the soil becoming less fertile said Padmabhusan Prof. Dr. U. R. Rao, President of Karnataka Science and Technology Academy, Bangalore and former President of ISRO during inaugural ceremony of two-days 'Regional Conference on Eco-system : The Emerging issues’ organized by Poornaprajna College and Karnataka State Science and Technology Department, Bangalore, at the Poornaprajna College Auditorium Udupi.

He further said that our country should increase agricultural products, which are now available only at 230 million tons, and in 2025 the consumption would increase around 460 million tons. The government should take measures to meet the target of food production hence the Government should develop Science and Technology to meet the target.

Prior to the inauguration, Invocation and Nadageethe were held by Rashmishree and Party while Dr. A. M. Ramesh, Official of Karnataka Science and Technology Academy Bangalore welcomed the guests. The program was inaugurated by H. H. Swamiji Sri Sri Vishwapreyathirtha Sripada.
Sadashiva Rao, Principal of college presided the occasion. Dr. G. S. Chandrashekar, Sri Pramod Madwarj and Dr. Valiathan former Vice Chancellor of MAHE, Manipal also spoke during the occasion.

Dr. U. R. Rao was felicitiated by the Swamiji. Meanwhile Dr. Valiathan was also honoured by the Swamiji. During his address Swamiji said that irresponsibility, selfishness, gluttony and extravagance has spoiled the delicate balance of our ecosystem. Senior scientists should encourage juniors to develop science and latest technology to safeguard the ecosystem.

Mr. Sadashiva Rao gave his presidential address. Dr. B. Jagadeesh Shetty Head of Department of History expressed words of gratitude, while Manjunath Kasraba, Lecturer, Department of Kannada and Suparna, Lecturer, Department of Chemistry compered the programme.
