Moodbidri : Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mijar, Moodbidri organized “Varishta Kreeda Koota 2017” which brings into the fore some of the most spectacular rural folklore games that have been forgotten over the years.

Entrepreneur Deviprasad Shetty, who inaugurated the event, called upon the young students to focus on preserving the ancient culture of the country by continuing playing rural sports and games. Modern games like cricket and football should not take away the shine of the rural games, he added.

Ancient traditional games like Lagori, Gilli Danda, Kho kho, Sack race, Lattoo, Channe mane, Kabaddi and cricket with a bat made of coconut branch (“kottalige bat”) were played by students in front of a large gathering.

The Sports meet was graced by Managing Trustee of Alva’s Education Foundation Vivek Alva, Principal of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dr Peter Fernandes, Principal of Alva’s Degree College Dr Kurian, Coordinators Prof K V Suresh and Dr Satyanarayana.
