State government to frame transgender policy: Umashree

Mangaluru: Minister for Women and Child development Umashree was in Mangaluru on March 27 to take part in the Devanga Conference. Speaking during the visit she claimed that the Department of Kannada and Culture had utilized 98% of the grants provided by the government.

"The Government plans to frame a Transgender Policy and also a policy aimed at empowering girls below 18 years of age. Women and Child Development Department has waived off loans amounting to Rs 11 crore given to women through various corporations. The department provides an incentive of Rs 50,000 to a person marrying a differently-abled woman while visually impaired women are given Rs 2000 per month in case they have children below two years."

"As many as 30 districts have Special Treatment Cells for rape victims. Stern action against those resorting to child marriage," she warned.
