Udupi: District street vendor’s association on Wednesday, November 2, organized a protest march against Udupi City Municipal Council and demanded to resolve the problems of street vendors in city. The president of Udupi street vendor association and legal advisor, Vishwanath Rai led the march.

Appealing to City Municipal Council, he said, “The city municipal council should release the carts and weighing machines which are seized by them. Council should also provide proper place for street vendors to sell their goods like the way they have provided place for auto stand and private vehicle parking space.”

“The city municipality should stop violence on street vendors. As per the rules of street vendors (Protection of livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014, the city municipal council has to conduct ‘Samarthya Vardana’ to make street vendors more capable,” he added.

The protesters also handed over a memorandum to commissioner of city municipal council.
